The Automotive Industry Institute PIMOT® was found by Polish Council of Ministers in 1972, as the automotive industry Research and Development unit.

PIMOT`s lines of activity cover scientific, R&D works and automotive products testing services. Institute is a separate and independent unit. It makes an unquestionable basic for impartiality of its opinion and test result obtained.

Activities of Laboratory apply to:

  • Simulation static and dynamic tests to determine performance characteristics and fatigue life of:
    • vehicle components (axle shafts, other parts subject to torsional loads) such as:
      • shock absorbers;
      • leaf springs, air bag springs;
      • towing attachments;
    • vehicle component assemblies such as:
      • vehicle suspension systems;
      • cabs;
      • load-carrying structures (frames);
      • bodies;
    • complete vehicles, with road wheels installed or removed.

Moreover, the Laboratory offers the following services:

  • Vibration testing of various devices, inclusive of those submitted from outside of the automotive industry (e.g. high voltage switching equipment);
  • Testing of material samples, with the carrying out of simulation tests in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics of the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Cracow.
  • On-the-job training for foreign students in cooperation with the Local Committee of IAESTE and for students of the Warsaw University of Technology.
Basic research equipment of the Laboratory:
  • MTS electrohydraulic test equipment that ensures precise reproducing of any input loads, including random inputs;
  • Software to generate input signals based on load histories recorded during actual operation of the systems under tests;
  • Equipment for digital recording of measured signals, with specialized signal processing software.

The Laboratory is authorized by the Ministry of Transport to carry out type-approval tests for conformity with the following UN-ECE Regulations and EU Directives:

  • UNECE Regulation No. 55 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of mechanical coupling components of combinations of vehicles'
  • UNECE Regulation No. 102 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of: I. close-coupling device (CCD) and II. vehicles with regard to the fitting of an approved type of CCD'
  • Directive No. 94/20/EC 'Mechanical coupling devices of motor vehicles and their trailers and their attachment to those vehicles'
  • Directive No. 77/389/EEC and 96/64/EC 'Motor vehicle towing devices'
  • Directive No. 89/173/EEC 'Certain components and characteristics (dimensions and towable masses; speed governors and protection of drive components, projections and wheels; windscreens and other glazing; mechanical coupling; location and method of affixing statutory plates and inscriptions to the body of the tractor; brake control for towed vehicles)
  • Directive No. 97/24/EC 'Certain components or characteristics of two or three-wheel motor vehicles'.
 Accreditation Certificate No. AB 082 issued by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005) within the scope of:
  • Testing of automotive towing attachments, ball-type coupling devices, rubber/metal elements, air bag springs, mechanical and hydraulic jacks.
